Euthanasia

Pet euthanasia provides a compassionate farewell, relieving pain and discomfort.

Furry friends are your family members and cared for deeply not only by you, but also by your loved ones. The stronger your bond is with your pet, the more difficult it can be to consider peacefully ending their life with euthanasia. Our veterinary team can provide the support and medical advice you need to make the best decision for your family and pet.

How do I know if euthanasia is the right decision?

One of the most important things to consider is how your pet’s quality of life is being impacted by illness, injury or aging. Our veterinary team uses a quality of life scale to help determine how your pet’s life is being impacted by their health condition. This scale helps us identify patterns over time, especially if your pet’s health is starting to deteriorate more. It’s important to keep an open line of communication with our veterinary team to share any changes in your pet’s health, which could be an indication that they’re condition is worsening or they’re experiencing more pain.

When does the procedure happen?

After you’ve had some time to discuss your pet’s health with our veterinary team and your family, we’ll give you the time you need to make a decision. We’ll schedule the procedure in advance, giving you enough time to prepare. We highly recommend you spend as much time as possible with your pet before the procedure. If you have children, you can use books and other resources our team can recommend to help them process their feelings. On the day of the appointment, we want to ensure you have the time you need to say your goodbyes. During the procedure, our veterinary team will administer the life-ending medicine that will peacefully help your pet to transition by stopping their heart and lungs. This process takes a few moments, limiting any pain or discomfort your furry family member feels.

What happens next?

Before the procedure, our veterinary team will discuss your options for taking care of your pet’s remains, including helping you make a detailed plan. We’ll help you decide if cremation or burial is the right fit, as well as recommend services. Commemorating your pet’s life could also help with the grieving process. If you’re having a difficult time processing the loss of your pet, we can recommend a support group and other resources. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact us at 705-753-0324.
